Abies procera Glauca - Noble Fir, Grafted Plant in 9cm Pot
Abies procera Glauca was discovered in England around 1863 and is perhaps one of the most colourful and stately of all conifers, a truly eye-catching, upright, conical tree with intense grey blue needles, emerging in a contrasting lighter shade, attractive, smooth, silver grey bark, turning reddish rough, brown after 20-30 years
Large (up to 25 cm long), steel blue cones, which turn bronze/brown as they age, are produced, even on young trees. Mature specimens will, in many years time, also have splendid trunks and an elegant, slender habit. Unlike many trees this one grows slowly in early youth, increasing to a medium rate of growth after the first 10-15 years. Can be grown in a pot or other container which will limit its size. Use a good quality ericaceous John Innes compost. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 12-14 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for a year. John Innes is a soil based compost. Please note: These are grafted plants to ensure strong; sturdy; long lived, reliable plants that are true to type.
