ADF4351-Based RF Synthesizer Module

This development-grade RF signal source uses the Analog Devices ADF4351 wideband PLL synthesizer, operating from 35 MHz to 4.4 GHz. Its physical dimensions are 7 × 4 × 1 cm, and it is built on a rigid black PCB with an SMA female RF output. Power input is via a standard DC002 barrel jack (4–9 V DC, 5 V recommended). Output modes include a fundamental sine wave from 2.2 GHz to 4.4 GHz, and a square wave from 35 MHz to 2.2 GHz (via internal division). A pre-mounted ±50 ppm 25 MHz active crystal ensures stable reference operation. Control is implemented through a minimal three-wire SPI bus, augmented by a dedicated control enable pin and hardware lock-detect output — supporting precise frequency programming, sweep generation, and hopping sequences. Frequency step resolution scales with the reference: as low as 0.1 kHz below ~1 GHz and up to 1 kHz above, ensuring adaptability across measurement use cases. Complete design documentation — including schematic and STM32 example code — is provided.
