Astilbe arendsii Cattleya - Astilbe - Plant in 9cm Pot
Astible arendsii hybrids involve crosses between A. chinensis, A. japonica, A. thunbergii and A. astilboides and are named after George Arends (1862-1952 Germany). They are ever popular clump forming perennials which feature graceful, fern-like mounds, usually with sharply toothed leaflets, and tiny flowers densely packed onto erect, often arching, plume like flower panicles, rising above the foliage on slender, upright stems, producing a dense, almost cloud like effect, that appers to shimmer in the wind. Astileb do not like sunny locations so excellent for semi or full shade locations with plenty of organic matter and moisture. A mass planting of Astible is a pleasure rarely forgotten
Astilbe arendsii Cattleya is a taller cultivar noted for its bright orchid pink flowers on stiff upright stems. Leaves emerge tinged red, turning dark green. Can be planted in a pot or other container. Use a good quality compost and ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 5-6 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year.
