This set contains 23 pure copper nails (3.5 inches × 3.5 mm), 1 stainless steel nail (3.5 inches × 3.5 mm), and 1 cobalt-infused high-speed steel drill bit nail (2.7 inches × 3.5 mm). Total package weight is approx. 250 g. All metal components are selected for long-term soil performance: copper resists corrosion in damp ground conditions; stainless steel maintains rigidity during pilot hole formation; cobalt-HSS delivers hardness and thermal stability when drilling into aged, fibrous wood. The biological action relies on copper ion phytotoxicity — when hammered into active xylem tissue near the stump collar, copper accumulates and interferes with enzymatic processes essential for cellular repair and nutrient conduction. This gradually starves the root system and prevents sprouting. Use is straightforward: mark 4–8 equidistant points around the outer edge of the stump; use the drill bit and stainless nail to establish shallow guide holes (1–2 cm deep); then drive each copper nail fully into its respective hole. Best results observed after 6–12 weeks depending on species and moisture levels. Suitable for common UK broadleaf stumps including sycamore, ash, hawthorn and apple.
