Cupressus sempervirens Stricta - Pencil Pine, Plant 3.5" pot
Cupressus sempervirens Stricta originates from the Mediterranean and is famous for its use in formal garden design, especially Italian designs. Its glaucose foliage and thin pointed or pencil like growth adds focus, stature and a certain grandness to even the most basic garden and when used in groups or rows they bring that unmistakable mark of a formal design. Whether such a grand scheme, or simply as a focal plant in the centre of a small bed, the effect will be proportionately the same. Where space is limited or shade unwanted, this plant will perform. Really a first class conifer of great merit. This plant can be used in a mixed planting or as a stand alone specimen in the garden or can easily be grown in a pot or other container. Use a good quality John Innes compost with added course peat or other organic material as this plant will be there a long time and pure peaty types of compost eventually degrade, become too packed and choke the roots. Ensure you keep them well watered and feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 12-14 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. John Innes is a soils based compost.
