Handmade North American Porcupine Totem Round Shaped Porcelain Pendant
Porcupines are skilled tree climbers, with long claws, textured palms and quills that facilitate their climb and secure their perch. A porcupines 30,000 quills cannot be fired, but they detach easily when touched. Quills were traded like currency among early Native American tribes who valued them for their use in elaborate quillwork art. When their natural diet lacks enough salt, porcupines will eat road salt, tires, and even wooden axe handles. The unique making process of these porcelain pendants allows for more detail in designs than other mediums. These designs are fired into the clay at 2200 degrees, so they will not peel or wear off. Each piece is surprisingly lightweight. Approx. Pendant size : 3.1 centimetre in diameter. Weight : 6 grams. Length of black cord : 36 inch or 91.4 centimetre. Chain option comes with a 2 mm flat link stainless steel chain of either 18 , 20 , 22 inch standard length or a 18 inch chain with an extension up to 4 inches ( 22 inch total ) in length for more flexibility and a lead free pewter accent bead.
