Tips for Stand-Up Paddle Board Use

Poor quality or incorrect use of stand-up paddle boards are a drowning risk and can lead to life-threatening situations or even death. Follow the below steps to help mitigate these risks.

  • Before use, examine the paddle board for any damage

  • Check the weather forecast, tide times and tell someone where you are going before you set off. Be aware conditions can change quickly

  • Wear suitable clothing for the time year

  • Check the maximum weight limit and strictly adhere to this

  • Make sure that all safety gear is in the correct position and functioning

  • After each use, clean and inspect the board for any damage sustained during use

  • Ensure the board is stored away from direct sunlight

  • Purchase boards from reputable retailers to ensure conformation to safety standards

  • Always use a paddle board with additional buoyancy aids such as a life jacket or a personal floatation device, and a leash attachment. Ensure these are of perfect quality and in good condition for additional safety
