Iris ensata are native to Japan, China, Korea and Russia. The unusually shaped flowers and vibrant colours, have made this striking plant Very fragrant popular as a garden plant. Iris ensata Variegata is an RHS award winning variety with beautiful small flowers, deep purple with a reddish sheen, the falls vivid cerise flushed deep purple . The long stem make these good for cutting. Leaves are a Very fragrant attractive grey green with creamy white stripe. Easy to grow in most locations, however for best result deep, fertile, mosit soil is prefered. Excellent in a mixed planting, or in groups. Can easily be grown in a pot or other container. Use a good quality compost and ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring.
