Jasminum polyanthum - White Jasmine Plant in 9cm Pot
This beautiful plant is native to China and Myanmar. Introduced into the Uk in the 1890s it has become a very popular and well known plant and especially so as a house or conservatory plant. Vigorous twining stems with attractive pinnate leaves quickly cover whatever it has been given to climb
Abundant clusters of reddish pink buds open to highly fragrant white flowers which, outside, are produced from May to September, earlier indoors. Jasminum polyanthum can be grown outside in the south of the UK given a sunny sheltered location and some protection during heavy frosts. In the north of the Uk and other colder areas, it should really only be grown inside, at least over winter. A beautiful plant with an amazingly strong fragrance. Can be used in a mixed planting or as a stand alone specimen in sunny sheltered gardens or can easily be grown in a pot or container. Definitely grows better in full sun and fertile well drained soil. Requires a frame work of some description to twine around. If it becomes to large it can easily be cut back. When growing in a pot or other container. Use a good quality John Innes compost as this plant will be there a long time and peaty types of compost eventually degrade and become too packed and choke the roots. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 12-14 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. John Innes is a soils based compost.
