Lagerstroemea indica With Love Babe - Crape Myrtle, Plant in 9cm Pot
The original species was introduced to the UK. from the Indian sub-continent around 1759 and has to rank as one of the most beautiful of small trees or shrubs. The newly bred "Love" series is a triumph of plant breeding. This remarkable achievement brings these beautiful plants into mainstream gardening and especially where space is limited. Hardy down to around -18c they have an extended flowering period from mid summer to later autumn. Compact, no longer a tree, but with a height of 60cm and a width of 40cm. With Love Babe produces a real abundance of very ornate pink flowers with crinkled edges, set against lush dark foliage. Butterflies and bees love them
This plant is easy to grow and can be used in a mixed planting or as a stand alone specimen in the garden, or can easily be grown in a pot or other container. Ensure container grown plants are given full sun. Good results can be obtained from plants grown all year round as conservatory plants. Use a good quality John Innes compost to which 20% horticultrual grit has been added to imporve drainage. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. John Innes is a soils based compost.
