Lamprocapnos spectabilis (syn Dicentra s.) - Love Lies Bleeding - Plant in 9cm Pot
Native to Siberia, northern China, Korea and Japan Dicentra spectablis, as it used to be known until recently, is one of the most popular of traditional garden plants, Bleeding Hearts burst into flower in late spring. Plants form a bushy, upright mound of light green foliage, with an almost fern like appearance. Dangling bright pink locket shaped flowers are held on arching stems, and are excellent as a cut flower. Performs best in a rich, moist soil with partial shade, and protection from hot afternoon sun. After flowering, the plants should be pruned back to 15cm to rejuvenate the foliage. They will die back by mid summer only to reappear the following spring
This plant is best used in a mixed planting in the garden or a container. If you are growing in a pot or other container ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 5-6 month applied in the early spring. One application gives the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. John Innes is a soils based compost.
