When the catalyst is removed, the rear oxygen sensor may detect higher temperature and increased flow of unburned fuel, which can trigger a check engine light with diagnostic trouble codes such as P0420 (catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 1) and/or P0430 (catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 2). This is a built-in mini catalyst unit. Does not expand; functions only when the extension is not in use.
