Parthenocissus tricuspidata Vetchii - Boston Ivy
A beautiful fast growing self clinging climber, native to the USA, Mexico, east Asia and the Himalays. Very popular for its vibrant rich purple crimson autumn colour and its ability to cover whatever it is planted against quickly with layers of attractive leaves. In autumn lots of dark blue bloomy berries are not uncommon. Vetchii has slightly smaller leaves than the speicies. Performs best on a part shaded or north facing wall. Can be used in a mixed planting or as a stand alone specimen in the garden or can easily be grown in a pot. Wherever you plant it, it will need something to grow up
When growing in a pot or other container. Use a good quality John Innes compost as this plant will be there a long time and peaty types of compost eventually degrade and become too packed and choke the roots. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote 8-9 month applied in the late spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. John Innes is a soils based compost.
