Robert the bruised

He woke that morning with his body again feeling quite sore. he had come to know that feeling well, and each time he liked it less. looking down at his arms, seeing the numerous black and blue markings, he knew what the rest of him looked like. no need to see it with his eyes. he thought back to the day before. yet as the sun arrived over the horizon, he closed his eyes and stretched his back to absorb the warmth.two ogres, he told himself shaking his head sightly in disgust. just two were never a problem. but when the other three came out, well, then it was war. he remembered fighting harder than he had done in a long time. constantly on alert. watching everywhere at once. his sword and shield ever at the ready. and he had won, for the obvious reason that he was still alive. and although he pondered many times changing his moniker, after each battle it accurately described the outcome - he was indeed robert the bruised.
