Rodgersia pinnata Superba - Plant in 9cm Pots
Rodgersia pinnata Superba is native to the mountains and valleys of south west China. A superb architectural plant that revels in wet soil. Bold, pleated, deeply divided, dark green leaves emerge in spring with a red tinge. In summer pink plumes of flowers are bourne on long stalks. Subsequent seed heads offer interest into autumn. An ideal woodland plant where the soil is constantly moist, or in the margins of a pond or stream. Prefers dappled shade but will tolerate full shade and can be grown in full sun of the soil never dries out. Use in a mixed planting, as a specimen by itself or even in a pot or container. When growing in a pot or other container, use a good quality John Innes compost as this plant will be there a long time and peaty types of compost eventually degrade and become too packed and choke the roots. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 5-6 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. John Innes is a soils based compost.
