Salvia nemorosa Caradonna - Balkan Clary, Plant in 9cm Pots
Salvias, in all their many forms, have grown tremendously in popularity over the past 10-15 years. Hardly suprising given the large range of flower forms, aromatic foliage and sheer flower power. Salvia nemorosa Caradonna is a lovely and striking plant, especially when planted in groups. A bushy, upright perennial with aromatic, grey green, ovate leaves. In summer and autumn, upright stems bear dense racemes of small, violet purple flowers giving a stunning impact. Prefer light, moist but well drained soils but quite tolerant of most well drained locations in full sun. Dead head to extend flowering period. Use in a mixed planting, as a specimen by itself or even in a pot or container. When growing in a pot or other container, use a good quality John Innes compost as this plant will be there a long time and peaty types of compost eventually degrade and become too packed and choke the roots. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 5-6 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. John Innes is a soils based compost.
