Solanum laxum (formerly jasminoidies) Alba Album - Chilean Potato Vine,9cm Pot
Previously called Solanum jasminoides Album this is a really splendid plant, beautiful deep dark green lush deeply lobed foliage makes the perfect back drop for the mass of white star shaped flower with an attractive central yellow staminal beak. The flowers are slightly fragrant with a Jasmin like fragrance and are followed by small glossy black berries. In a sunny location and with good soil this plant has a dense riotous form of growth and can climb or clamber for up to 9 mtrs. Sadly, it is not fully hardy so needs a sheltered south facing location in the south of the Uk and is probably best restricted to conservatory growth in more northern areas. Can be used in a mixed planting or as a stand alone specimen in the garden or can easily be grown in a pot or container. Definitely grows better in full sun and fertile well drained soil. Requires a frame work of some description for support and will need tying if it cannot clamber round or over the supports. If it becomes to large it can easily be cut back. When growing in a pot or other container. Use a good quality John Innes compost as peaty types of compost eventually degrade and become too packed and choke the roots. Never allow the pot to freeze
Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. John Innes is a soils based compost.
