Yasujirô Ozu directs this 1950s Japanese drama that explores ageing, mortality and intergenerational tensions. When elderly couple Tomi and Shukichi Hirayama (Chieko Higashiyama and Chishu Ryu) travel from their rural village home to visit their married son and daughter in Tokyo, their reception is disappointing.
