Verbascum olympicum - Greek Mullein, Plant in 1Ltr Pot
Verbascum olympicum are native to Southern Greece and the Olympus mountains in Turkey. It is to say the least a very impressive plant and arguably the finest of the genus. Large, Silvery grey, felted evergreen, slightly fleshy, basal leaves grow in attractive, flat, wide rosettes, reminiscent of an open fan. Verbascums are very architectural in both foliage and flower. From early to late summer, tall flower spikes rise from the centre of the foliage, followed by secondary flower spikes. Each are crowded with bright, golden yellow, very long lasting blooms, giving the effect of an enormous candelabra. A real champion for flower production and the best for cut flowers as they are much easier to gather from than other varieties. Prefers dry alkaline soil and is very drought tolerant. This plant can be used in a mixed planting or in a container. If planting in a pot or other container. Use a good quality compost. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year.
