In 1968, maggie lived a normal teenage suburban existence. she smoked weed with her friends, went to the drive-in, and painted murals on her bedroom walls. but her life wasn't as care-free as it appeared. her mother, still grieving the loss of maggie's father, drank herself into a stupor every night while trying - and failing - to control every aspect of her daughters' lives. when her sister, alice, was sent away to a home for unwed pregnant teenagers, maggie knew she needed to get as far away from their mother as possible. then she met liv, a free spirit from laurel canyon, who lived and traveled with kin, the hottest new rock band in southern california. she gave maggie the invitation of a lifetime, to tour with the band as an artist and promotional vendor. but as her friendship with liv blossomed into romance, she began to realize that life on the road wasn't as glamorous as it seemed.
